Shepherd attacked by she-bear with cubs at Cheitar sheepfold
A shepherd has been attacked by a she-bear with cubs, but he managed to escape being defended by dogs and another shepherd, Mayor of Sighetu Marmatieic Vasile Moldovan said on Thursday, told Agerpres.
According to the mayor, the 46-year-old shepherd of a sheepfold in the Cheitar area was attacked by a she-bear with cubs.
"With the aid of dogs and a person who was accompanying him, he managed to escape, being later rushed to the emergency department of the Sighetu Marmatiei Municipal Hospital. Fortunately, the wounds were superficial, the person being out danger. Together with the responding team (gendarmes, a veterinarian, a game warden) we went to the scene and will draw up an event report with the necessary legal measures. Pending the legal measures, we are asking the public to avoid travelling in the Cheitar area in order to avoid major risks," said Moldovan.
According to the Maramures County Gendarmerie Inspectorate (IJJ), the responding team went to the scene for checks and cordoned off the area.
"The animal has not been identified. The victim was rushed to the Sighetul Marmatiei Municipal Hospital and is out of danger," said IJJ Maramures.
