Sibiu residents are complaining of two-month delays in the issuance of new electronic identity cards, something that was reported on Wednesday in the Local Council, where the mayor of Sibiu, Astrid Fodor, declared that it is a "project presented as fantastic and functional", but "it does not work".

USR municipal councilor Diana Muresan declared on Wednesday, during the meeting, that two Sibiu residents complained to her that they had to wait two months to receive the new electronic ID card.

In response, the mayor of Sibiu, Astrid Fodor, said: "This is a problem throughout the country and it is a problem, from my point of view, very serious, because the system is not working. (...) And in our AMR (Association of Romanian Municipalities) group, there is a very intensive discussion that all the cities are affected, (...) our staff are totally exhausted (...). Maybe those who have the opportunity should also apply to the ministries led by those who brought us to this situation. So, a project that was presented to us as fantastic and functional, is not working".

The Sibiu residents who want the new electronic identity cards apply to the local City Hall, but the printing is done in Bucharest.
