The snow layer in the mountainous area of the Maramures County has exceeded 60 centimetres and continues to snow, with road traffic on all sections of the national, county and rural roads proceeding in winter conditions, the spokesperson of the Maramures Prefecture, Dan Buca, informs on Monday.
"It snowed in extensive areas. Fog was reported in the high mountainous area. The snow layer measured up to 62 cm in Firiza (...). The wind showed temporary intensifications of up to 34 km/h in the hilly and mountainous areas, respectively 58 km/h in the high mountainous area, blowing the snowfall and scattering the snow," said Dan Buca.
According to the same source, the coldest was last night and Monday morning at the Iezer weather station -16 degrees Celsius, in the Prislop Pass -12 degrees Celsius, in Ocna Sugatag and in the Gutai Pass -11 degrees Celsius, -9 degrees Celsius in Targu Lapus, Moisei and Cavnic.
Ice floes are flowing on the Tisa, Viseu, Suciu, Somes, Lapus and Cavnic rivers. Ice bridges are formed on the Cavnic and Lapus rivers. Ice bridges exist on the Mara, Cosau and Salaj rivers. Ice at the bottom was formed in the Cavnic, Lapus and Firiza rivers.
On the main national and county roads, maintenance workers intervened with anti-skid material and cleared the snow.
