The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) draws attention, on Saturday evening, that, in Romania, social networks are considered public space, so it is forbidden to transmit electoral messages through them.
The representatives of the MAI made clarifications in the context of the appearance of some information regarding the sanctioning of some persons who continued the electoral campaign through posts on social networks.
"For the correct information of the public, considering certain information that appeared in the public space regarding the sanctioning of some people who continued the electoral campaign through posts on social networks, we make the following clarifications: according to Decision No. 4546/2014 of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (Supreme Court, ed. n.), in Romania social networks are considered public space. Thus, the continuation of electoral promotion outside the period allowed by law is prohibited, including in these environments, according to the legislation in force," the MAI said.
