Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) Ignazio Cassis on Wednesday will begin a three-day official visit to Romania, according to the Swiss Embassy in Bucharest.
Cassis is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu, Finance Minister Tanczos Barna and Minister of Education, Research and Innovation Daniel David.
Featuring on the visit's agenda are cooperation agreements for Switzerland's second contribution in favour of selected EU member states, under which Romania has been allocated the total amount of 221.5 million Swiss francs. This second contribution to European cohesion provides for the continuation of Switzerland's commitment to Romania, especially in the areas of energy efficiency, dual training, safety and public health.
Cassis will sign several cooperation agreements on energy efficiency and renewable energies, public safety, dual vocational education and training, health and social inclusion.
Also addressed will be EU-Romania relations, ties between the EU and Switzerland, as well as the conflict in Ukraine, and support for Ukraine's recovery .
The issue of minorities will also be "a common thread" during the visit, the embassy said. Cassis will participate on Thursday in a cultural event in Bucharest to mark the fifth edition of the Romansch Language Week (Emna rumantscha), and travel to Constanta on Friday to take part in a debate on the importance of minority languages to regional development.
