Both Romanian teams, men's and women's, qualified, on Monday, for the main draw at the European Table Tennis Team Championships in Zadar (Croatia), after winning the preliminary groups.
In the women's category, after defeating Wales, 3-0, Romania defeated Luxembourg, 3-1, according to the website of the Romanian Table Tennis Federation. Adina Diaconu lost the first match, 2-3 (11-8, 11-7, 5-11, 9-11, 10-12), to Sarah De Nutte, but Andreea Dragoman managed two victories, 3-2 (11-9, 9-11, 6-11, 11-3, 11-6), to Enisa Sadikovic, and 3-2 (11-7, 11-5, 6-11, 8-11, 11-5) to Sarah De Nutte, while Bernadette Szocs won, 3-0 (11-2, 11-2, 11-6), against Melisa Sadikovic.
In the men's event, after scoring 3-0 with the Netherlands, Romania defeated the Slovakian team by the same score.
Ovidiu Ionescu defeated Yang Wang, 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 13-11), Eduard Ionescu defeated Lubomir Pistej, 3-0 (11-7, 11-7, 11-2), and Iulian Chirita won the match against Jakub Zelinka, 3-0 (13-11, 11-9, 11-6).
The Romanian women's team won silver at the last edition and is the leader in the European ranking as of June.
The men's team ranks 6th in the European ranking as of June, and in the last edition it stopped in the round of 16.
