TAROM is canceling 10 internal and external flights on Monday due to the temporary unavailability of flight crew members, the air operator announced.
"In accordance with international aviation regulations and strict internal flight safety policies, each of the respective flights has been canceled because one crew member of each aircraft was declared "unfit to fly". The pilots' individual decisions were made in accordance with the regulations in force to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers and crew," TAROM representatives said in a press release.
The flights canceled so far are: ROT101/2 Otopeni -Cairo- Otopeni, ROT167/8 Otopeni -Beirut- Otopeni, ROT187/8 Otopeni -Amman-Otopeni, ROT701/2 Otopeni - Iasi-Otopeni, ROT621/2 - Otopeni - Oradea-Otopeni, ROT261/2 - Otopeni - Istanbul-Otopeni, ROT231/2 - Otopeni - Budapest-Otopeni, ROT 301/2 - Otopeni - Frankfurt-Otopeni, ROT361/2 - Otopeni - Amsterdam - Otopeni and ROT 381/2 - Otopeni - Paris-Otopeni.
The company said in a statement that it is going through an unprecedented situation, and TAROM teams are working together to find solutions and protect passengers since last night. Commercial Departments, Ticketing, Call Center and some of the pilots and flight attendants are currently in operational mobilization and re-recruitments or other alternatives are being reconsidered, while passengers in the airport are provided with everything needed. Additional staff has already been assigned for these activities, reads the press release.
"TAROM regrets the inconvenience and assures passengers that their safety is our absolute priority. We are committed to providing convenient alternatives for passengers affected by these cancellations. Our assistance team will contact passengers directly to provide detailed information on flight rescheduling, refunds or other options available. TAROM is making every effort and taking the necessary measures to minimize the impact that this situation could have on the travel plans of affected passengers, and they will be informed about the new flight arrangements," the national air carrier said.
In this context, the Minister of Transportation, Sorin Grindeanu, asked the management team of TAROM to urgently come up with an effective restructuring plan to ensure the operational capacity of the national air operator.
According to the cited source, the emphasis should be placed on ensuring the flight staff and not on keeping within the company people who do not contribute to the proper functioning of TAROM.
Sorin Grindeanu emphasized that he is waiting for a detailed public communication from the Director General of TAROM announcing the solutions identified.
