Vodafone Romania has completed the acquisition of Telekom Romania Mobile Communications, after completing all legal documents and obtaining the necessary approvals from the Romanian authorities, according to a press release sent on Wednesday, AGERPRES.
Thus, according to the cited source, Vodafone has acquired, as of October 1, control over Telekom Romania, taking over most of the employees, all postpaid and business customers, the store network and a large part of the technical network infrastructure. Prepaid customers and certain assets will be taken over by Digi Romania.
"The acquisition of Telekom Romania by Vodafone is worth 30 million euros. The transaction will involve substantial further investments, mainly in network integration, complementing the over 6.5 billion euros invested so far by Vodafone in its 28 years of presence in Romania. This moment marks a significant stage for the telecommunications industry, by consolidating the market and creating the premises for innovation and significant investments," the press release reads.
As a result of the transaction, customers will benefit in the future from a stronger network, with higher speed, superior quality and increased connectivity coverage, by expanding the spectrum and increasing the number of sites.
As part of the integration process, Vodafone Romania will take over the majority of Telekom Romania employees, ensuring a smooth transition through an organizational, cultural and operational alignment program, which will preserve the significant strengths and expertise of both organizations.
"We are delighted to welcome Telekom Romania to the Vodafone family, an important step in our mission to connect Romania and Romanians to a better future. This is the beginning of a new chapter full of opportunities, as we continue to be at the forefront of the digital transformation in the telecommunications industry. Today, Vodafone and Telekom join forces to develop a mobile network at the highest standards, to offer a better experience and access to cutting-edge technology for families and businesses in Romania. It is a crucial moment for the Romanian telecommunications market, a consolidated, stronger market with significant growth potential following this transaction. We thus continue to invest in innovation and in the future of the industry, contributing to Romania's digital transformation, for the benefit of customers, employees and the entire society", said Nedim Baytorun, CEO of Vodafone Romania, quoted in the press release.
The two companies will continue to operate as separate legal entities but part of the same group, until the completion of the merger process, estimated at the beginning of 2026.
The integration of the two organizations will take place in stages. This approach ensures stability and added value in the future through unified operations, innovation and investments. Employees, customers and partners of the two companies will be informed through periodic updates, to be aware of each evolution throughout the process.
