The Romanian pair Jaqueline Cristian/Gabriela Ruse have qualified for the round of 16 in the doubles event at the WTA 1,000 tournament in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), which has a prize fund of 4,088,211 US dollars, after defeating, 6-4, 7-6 (7/1), the American/New Zealand duo of Asia Muhammad/Erin Routliffe.
The Romanians sealed their victory after 1 hour and 41 minutes of play against the 6th seeds.
Cristian and Ruse secured a cheque worth 17,200 US dollars and 120 WTA points in doubles. In the round of 16, they will face the winners of the match between Alexandra Panova/Diana Shnaider (Russia) and Irina Hromacheva (Russia)/Aldila Sutjiadi (Indonesia).
In singles, Sorana Cirstea will meet Belarusian Aleksandra Sasnovich in the first round, Jaqueline Cristian will face Canadian Victoria Mboko (11th seed), and Gabriela Ruse, coming through the qualifiers, will meet American Emma Navarro (14th seed).
