Romanian tennis player Miriam Bulgaru qualified without any emotions in the round of 16 of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy (WTA 125), a tournament with total prize money of 115,000 dollars and hosted by the National Tennis Centre, on Tuesday, after defeating Italian Nicole Fossa Huergo 6-1, 6-3, informs Agerpres.
Bulgaru (25, WTA's 202nd) needed one hour and 11 minutes to overcome the Italian (29, WTA's 351st) lucky loser.
Originally, Bulgaru was supposed to play Swiss Simona Waltert in the first round, but the forfeit of the number two seed, German Tamara Korpatsch, led to changes on the draw.
Miriam Bulgaru secured a USD 2,000 check and 15 WTA points and will face Dejana Radanovic (Serbia) or Justina Mikulskyte (Lithuania) in the second round.
Russian Alina Cearaeva, who came from the qualifiers, produced a surprise, defeating the eighth seeded player, Poland's Katarzyna Kawa, 6-0, 6-4, in another first round match.
