The Romanian-Australian pair Monica Niculescu and Storm Hunter qualified on Friday for the doubles semifinals of the WTA 250 tennis tournament in Chennai (India), which offers total prize money of 275,094 US dollars, after an easy 6-2, 6-1 victory over the Russian duo Tatiana Prozorova and Ekaterina Iashina.
Niculescu and Hunter, the top seeds in the doubles event, who entered directly into the quarter-finals, secured the win in just 64 minutes.
Niculescu and her partner secured a cheque worth 4,260 US dollars and 98 WTA doubles points, and they will face in the semi-finals the winners of the match between Mai Hontama/Akiko Omae (Japan) and Hiroko Kuwata (Japan)/Thasaporn Naklo (Thailand).
