Young Romanian player Mara Gae was defeated by German Julia Stusek 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 on Friday in the quarterfinals of the ITF tournament in Bucharest, with total prizes of 15,000 dollars.
Gae (19 years old), ranked 1,174th in the world, champion in the junior doubles event at the US Open in 2023, lost after two hours and 24 minutes, to a 16-year-old opponent. The Romanian committed no less than 10 double faults in this match.
Romania is no longer represented in doubles either, with Simona Ogescu/Ioana Teodora Sava and Stefania Bojica/Anastasia Safta failing to qualify for the final.
