Romanian tennis players Ana Bogdan and Patricia Tig made their debut with victories on Tuesday, in the qualifications for the main draw of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament.
Ana Bogdan (32 years old, no. 247 WTA) beat Russian Ekaterina Makarova (29 years old, no. 220 WTA), 6-4, 6-1, after one hour and 19 minutes, agerpres reports.
In the second round, Ana Bogdan will play against another Russian, Anastasia Zaharova (23 years old, no. 94 WTA), the fourth seed in the preliminary draw. The two met for the first time in 2022, in Iasi (WTA 125), the Romanian winning in the round of 16 by 6-1, 6-2.
In another match, Patricia Tig (30 years old, no. 215 WTA) defeated Canadian player Kayla Cross (20 years old, no. 229 WTA) 4-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-4, after two hours and 36 minutes.
Patricia's next opponent will be American Robin Montgomery (20 years old, 119 WTA), a first-time duel.
Ana Bogdan and Patricia Tig each secured 26,000 pounds and 20 WTA points.
