The three Romanians who were stuck in the cable car in the Macugnaga mountain resort, located in northern Italy, near the Swiss border, have been evacuated and are in good condition, announced the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Toiu.

This added that the cable car transporting tourists malfunctioned when stopping at the ascent and descent stations, respectively, agerpres reports.

"During the last few hours, we have been in contact with the Consulate General of Romania in Turin, which is in contact with the Italian authorities. They have intervened on the spot to evacuate the approximately 100 people who remained trapped in the cable cars and we have good news: the three Romanian citizens, of whom we are aware, who were in the cable car, have been evacuated and are in good condition," the head of Romanian diplomacy wrote on Facebook.

She added that no serious victims have been reported, and the rescue operations are being completed.

At the same time, Oana Toiu reminds that the affected Romanians and their families have the emergency telephone number of the Consulate General of Romania in Turin available 24/7.

"I encourage all of you who are traveling during these holidays to download 'Travel Informed', the recently updated free digital application of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It has been relaunched with more useful features when traveling abroad, it has personalized alerts, guides and useful information about destinations, consular contacts and emergency procedures. It can be a useful source of information, but you can easily signal your presence in the destination country to the consulates and you can find the emergency numbers", the minister said.
