Timisoara, capital of Balkan culture this weekend with Banaton Fest - Balkan Folk-Pop Music Awards

Timisoara becomes the capital of Balkan culture from May 30 to June 1, when Banaton Fest - Balkan Folk-Pop Music Awards, a large-scale event that brings to the forefront top artists from Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Romania, will take place.

The public is invited to discover the diversity of music, gastronomy, crafts and traditions that define this area of Europe, during the event organized by Timis County Council (CJ), Visit Timisoara and Banat Link Association.

"We aim for Banaton Fest to become the largest and most representative event dedicated to Balkan culture in Europe, a point of reference for intercultural dialogue, inclusion and promotion of the region's common heritage," the president of Timis County Council, Alfred Simonis, conveyed on Friday in a press release.

The Balkan Folk-Pop Music Awards Gala, the central moment of the event, will kick off on Friday, from 5:00 p.m., on the main stage at Bega Business Center (2 Republicii Street), and will be presented by Dan Negru and Tania Vlascici.

Special awards will be presented to some of the biggest names in Balkan folk and pop music: RTS Orchestra (Banaton Fest Special Award), Nenad Nesa Milevski, Slavisa Vujic, Toma Vasic (Banaton Fest Special Awards), Renato Henz and Zorana Pavic (Balkan Award for the Pop Singer/Singer of the Year), Nicoleta Voica (Award for a career of excellence in Romanian folk music), Maria Didraga & Joan Todoran / Ljiljana & Dragan Aleksandric (Awards for successful couples on the traditional music scene), Stella Rade (Award for the most promising talent of the year), Beki Bekic and Snezana Durisic (Awards for folk interpretation, male and female).

On Saturday, as of 3:00 p.m., the festival continues with a festive atmosphere: gastronomic areas, activities for the whole family and new live recitals. From 5:00 p.m, Amala Band (Rock Band of the Year Award), Cor Rock Family (Serbia, Special Award), Desanca Lalici (Lifetime Achievement Award), Haris Kaltak Orchestra (Bosnia and Herzegovina, - Best Balkan Orchestra Award), surprise guest Dragana Mirkovic (two awards: "Queen of Balkan folk music" and "Hit of the Year Award - Placi zemljo").

The festival also includes an ETNO Cultural Park, a space dedicated to the promotion of the food, gastronomy and customs of the region's ethnic groups. The area will host food and wine workshops, tastings of traditional products and cultural demonstrations.

On Sunday, Children's Day, the stage and the whole festival area will be dedicated to the little ones, with musical performances, games, surprises and interactive activities as part of the Banaton Kids Festival.

Participants will also have access to the biggest amusement park in Eastern Europe - Andreas Luna Parc, with the panoramic Ferris wheel, roller coaster and dozens of attractions for all ages. Admission is free.
