Total resources of grains and grain products were lower by 6.384 million tons in 2024, compared to the level of 2023, totaling 50.72 million tonnes according to data centralized by the National Institute of Statistics.
Compared to the previous year, in 2024, the level of grain production contributed to the formation of total resources in a smaller proportion by 1.2 percentage points (p.p.) and recorded a decrease of 2.912 million tonnes. Grain production was 17.645 million tonnes.
Imports of grains and grain products provided 5.2% of the total resources of 2024, totaling 2.64 million tonnes.
In 2024, compared to the previous year, the initial stock of grains and grain products contributed to a higher proportion (+1.1 p.p.) to the formation of total resources. The initial stock was 30.435 million tonnes.
The largest share in total grain production was the production of wheat and rye, increasing by 5.8 p.p. compared to the previous year (52.8% in 2024 compared to 470% in 2023), Agerpres informs.
The share of corn production (33.8%), in total grain production decreased compared to the previous year by 8.7 p.p.
Total imports of grains and grain products in 2024 decreased by 10.1% compared to the previous year. Compared to 2023, imports from the wheat and rye group (in grain equivalent) increased by 25.2%, and those from the corn group (in grain equivalent) decreased by 38.6%, from the other cereals group (in grain equivalent) by 33.3% and from the rice group (in grain equivalent) by 6.8%.
Total exports of grains and grain products decreased by 2.884 million tons compared to 2023 and represented 65.6% of uses. Wheat and rye exports accounted for 56.9%, while corn exports accounted for 24% of total exports of grains and grain products.
The quantities of grains and grain products intended for domestic consumption were lower in 2024 by 934,000 tonnes, compared to the previous year. The largest share in domestic cereal consumption was held by the quantities of cereals intended for animal feed (45.2%), followed by those available for human consumption (39.9%).
