Trade unions of employees in the penitentiary system are launching protests in the penitentiaries across the country, starting on Monday, demanding the authorities, among other things, to give up such modifications to the legal framework regulating military pensions.
According to a press release sent on Monday to AGERPRES, participating in the protests are the Federation of Unions in the Penitentiary System, alongside the PUBLISIND Federation, and the National Union of Penitentiary Police Officers.
"FSSP-PUBLISIND is blocking the activities of the Penitentiary Police by coordinating unitary actions in which all prison police officers will refuse to work overtime, and the trade unions will express in writing their disagreement with the fact that the maximum ceiling of 180 additional hours per year provided for by law is being exceeded," the press release states.
While we lack the necessary human resources, the functioning of the Penitentiary Police is dependent on the additional work done by prison police officers, in an immense volume, unique in Romania, the maximum legal ceiling of 180 hours per year having been exceeded since June in most units, the same source mentions, adding that the simple exercise of the legal right to refuse in writing to perform additional work generates serious blockages of activities in the penitentiary system.
Thus, the calendar of the protest actions includes: blocking of the activities through the written disagreement of PUBLISIND/SNPP-FSSP regarding the non-observance of the maximum legal ceiling of 180 hours of additional work that can be performed during 2025 by employees of the Penitentiary Police (starting on Monday); blocking of the activities through the express refusal of all penitentiary police officers to perform additional work, as well as the refusal to perform tasks other than those corresponding to the job description (starting on Monday); rallies at the penitentiary headquarters, at the ANP (National Administration of Penitentiaries) headquarters and at the Minister of Justice headquarters.
