Popular Movement Party (PMP) President Traian Basescu considers that Romania needs a strong parliamentary commission to oversee the intelligence services, as a remedy meant to lead to the regaining of confidence in those institutions. The ex-President added that the Government led by Dacian Ciolos, “generated by generals and prosecutors,” is “a monument of incapacity and incompetence.”
“What embarrassment about undercover officers. Some say Valentin Zegrean, others say Georgian Pop, others say Isar, some say A. Saftoiu, others say Mihai Tudose, others say the SRI Commission as a whole. Folks, look at them. They are all nobodies that, at most, intelligence services used as agents of influence or trumpets in order to satisfy small needs in the public space, but that they never considered worthy of becoming undercover officers of a Romanian intelligence service. And, if we’re talking about agents of influence and not undercover officers, my opinion is that the press is full of such agents of influence, who think they are protected if they “serve the cause” by claiming that the Motherland can be saved only by generals and prosecutors and by indiscriminately destroying politicians.
Personally, I know only two people from among the politicians who were at one point given the honour of being truly undercover officers, but I will never be able to prove it: one of them is Victor Ponta at SIE and the other is Sebastian Ghita at SRI. Surely, they no longer have this capacity once they entered Parliament. Moreover, these two do not want to take over parties in the name of the intelligence services. Apart from this, only volunteer agents of influence, servants with low IQ, who falsely believe they are smoothing their careers. Vain hope.
Political mud-slinging aside, those who have a problem in this whole story are the intelligence services. Why has it come to the point in which most people in the political environment, economic environment, in the judiciary, in society, are wondering about the decisive influence of the intelligence services? It is a code red for confidence. We need a strong parliamentary commission to oversee the intelligence services as the sole remedy for the regaining of confidence” , Traian Basescu wrote on Facebook.
