Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan criticized the fact that there are inadequate procedures in the healthcare system, pointing out that treatments that can be solved with generic drugs, due to delays in the system, are solved at prices two to three times more expensive, with innovative drugs.

"Unfortunately, we have an over-consumption of medicines and inadequate procedures in this area. We have a significant share of innovative medicines both in volume, much higher than normal, but also in amount, and treatments that can be solved with generic medicines, due to delays in the system, are solved at prices that are two to three times more expensive than innovative ones. And it is necessary that where expensive medicines can be replaced by generic medicines, we do so, and only where there are no substitutes, we continue to maintain the possibility of expensive treatments, which exceed the possibilities of the system," explained Ilie Bolojan.

According to the prime minister, there is "an imbalance in the activity in the healthcare system".

"Which generates much higher overall costs, because patients end up in the hospital system with diseases at an advanced stage, because prevention is weak and because the share of treatments in family doctors' offices, in outpatient clinics or in day hospitals, in day hospitalization, is at a much too low share compared to what it should be", pointed out Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.

The prime minister and the Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, presented on Monday, in a press conference at the Victoria Palace, the measures envisaged by the Government for reforming the healthcare system.
