Turnover in market services provided to the population fell in August 2025 compared to the same month in 2024, down 7.3 percent as gross series and 7.5 percent as series adjusted to the number of working days and seasonality, with the sharpest decline recorded in travel agency and tour operator activities, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data published Wednesday.
Thus, market services provided to the population in travel agency, tour operator activities and other reservation and tourism assistance services fell by 17.5 percent as gross series and 22.8 percent as series adjusted to the number of working days and seasonality.
Significant declines were also recorded in textile and fur cleaning (dry cleaning), down 16.7 percent as gross series and 15.4 percent as seasonally and working-day adjusted series, as well as in hotels and restaurants, down 7.9 percent as gross series and 10.7 percent as adjusted series.
Market services provided to the population in hairdressing and other beauty activities recorded a fall by 5.4 percent as gross series and 4.2 percent as series adjusted to the number of working days and seasonality.
In contrast, turnover in market services provided to the population in August 2025 rose compared to August 2024 in gambling and other recreational activities, increasing by 0.8 percent as gross series and 0.3 percent as adjusted series according to the number of working days and seasonality.
Compared to July 2025, turnover in market services provided to the population fell in August 2025 by 2.3 percent as gross series and by 5.5 percent as series adjusted to the number of working days and seasonality.
In respect to market services provided to the population, as gross series, turnover fell in August 2025 compared to the previous month because of the declines recorded in textile and fur cleaning (dry cleaning) activities (-12.3 percent), hairdressing and other beauty services (-9.4 percent) and hotel and restaurant activities (-3.6 percent).
In August, compared to July, increases were recorded in travel agency and tour operator activities, up 21.6 percent, and in gambling and other recreational activities, up 5.6 percent.
In the first eight months of the year, turnover in market services provided to the population declined compared to the period 1 January - 31 August 2024, both as gross series by 0.7 percent and by 1.1 percent as series adjusted to the number of working days and seasonality.
According to the INS, market services provided to the population, as gross series, recorded a 0.7 percent decline in turnover between January and August 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, driven by falls in travel agency and tour operator activities (-15.8 percent), gambling and other recreational activities (-3.5 percent) and textile and fur cleaning (dry cleaning) activities (-0.1 percent).
Hairdressing and other beauty services (+13.0 percent), as well as hotel and restaurant activities (+0.2 percent) recorded increases.
