USR: Gov't has swollen with thousands of employees since PSD, PNL have been at rule

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) - National Liberal Party (PNL) government "has swollen" with thousands of employees since the PSD and PNL have been at rule, say representatives of the Save Romania Union (USR) on Tuesday, who are asking Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu to "stop hiring politicians and wasting public money."

According to them, "only in July 2023, while PSD Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu promised to reduce public spending, 150 people were hired at the General Secretariat of the Government, compared to June 2023."

In July 2023, USR adds, there are 500 more employees at the Ministry of Investment and European Projects and at the Ministry of Finance than a year ago (July 2022), while there are big delays in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) reforms, and the state budget revenues are disastrous even according to the PSD-PNL coalition supporting the Government. Other ministries have also considerably increased their number of employees during this period: 130 more employees at the Ministry of Environment, 50 at the Ministry of Economy and another 50 at the Ministry of Family, because the nerve on public money has no limits, USR representatives say in a press release.

"People can't pay enough taxes for this government to hire civil servants whose usefulness is nowhere to be seen. So the Government has decided that everyone has to pay more so that they can hire more of their own cronies, connections and party acquaintances," said USR MEP Cristian Seidler.
