Save Romania Union (USR, opposition, ed.n.) Chairman, deputy Dan Barna, declared Monday evening, after the adoption of the amendments for the Criminal Procedure Code, that Romania has been transformed into a "criminal state", informs Agerpres.

"Today you have officially transformed Romania in a criminal state, formally and legislated. As of today, it will be impossible to arrest those who commit tax evasion and money laundering and after they steal our money, they will be able to leave for Brazil or Costa Rica. As of today, with your vote, paedophiles, murderers and other criminals that were filmed with a mobile phone by a witness will get away if there are no other pieces of evidence. By means of today's vote, women, daughters or abused children will have to look in the eyes of their rapists or criminals, during statements," Barna said.

He added that Romania has reached this point because there are people with criminal cases that hold office in public positions.

"As of today Romania is a safe haven for criminals and we have reached this point because there are criminally indicted people who hold public office. When the time comes for USR to govern, it will commit itself to repairing all that you have done to this country. No more criminals in public positions!," Barna said.

The Chamber of Deputies' plenary sitting adopted on Monday the bill to amend the Criminal Procedure Code, with 175 votes "in favour", 78 "against" and one abstention.
