USR will analyze the program, the team of ministers, and the majority supporting Luca Niculescu for the position of Prime Minister, party president Dominic Fritz stated.
At the same time, he reiterated that USR would not support a government with PSD ministers or one "controlled" by the PSD, agerpres reports.
"USR has taken note of the nomination of Luca Niculescu for the position of prime minister. He is a respected career diplomat, renowned for the professional execution of the missions entrusted to him, for example, Romania's OECD accession process. USR will analyze the program, the team of ministers, and the majority supporting him. We will discuss with the Prime Minister-designate how he intends to ensure that the government can deliver results, just as USR ministers did," Dominic Fritz stated in a Facebook post.
The USR leader added that the decision regarding potential support for a government led by Niculescu would be made within the party's statutory bodies.
"One thing is clear, however: USR will not support a government with PSD ministers or one controlled by the PSD. A prime minister dependent on orders from the PSD cannot be 'independent.' Romania urgently needs a government. But it needs one that will pull the country out of the crisis, not one that brings back to power those who caused it," Dominic Fritz further wrote.
President Nicusor Dan designated on Monday Luca Niculescu, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to form the government, following new consultations held at Cotroceni Palace with parliamentary parties and groups.
