Romania is strengthening its strategic partnership with the United States, and the Mihail Kogalniceanu Base is entering a new stage of development, floor leader of the Save Romania Union (USR) deputies Bogdan Rodeanu said.
"Speaking of the so-called 'departure of the Americans from Romania' - in reality, things are exactly the opposite: Romania is strengthening its strategic partnership with the United States, and the Mihail Kogalniceanu Base is entering a new stage of development. Romania's security is not affected. The presence of our allies is stable, and troop rotations are part of NATO's normal mobility mechanism," Rodeanu, who is vice-president of the Chamber of Deputies' Defense Committee, wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
In addition, he explained that the Romanian Parliament had been informed since September by the President of Romania that he had approved the pre-positioning at the Mihail Kogalniceanu Military Base of military hardware and new American contingents.
"In short: the United States requested and received approval for the stationing of air refueling aircraft and force protection means. (...) The letter sent to the Romanian Parliament clearly explains why, in the context of Middle East tensions and the reinforcement of NATO's posture, the United States is reconfiguring its military presence typology in the region, moving from the predominance of ground troops to a much more flexible and efficient air and surveillance structure. Therefore, while a land brigade is completing its rotation cycle, Romania is hosting new state-of-the-art air capabilities. (...) This is a strategic reconfiguration, not a withdrawal. (...) The facts clearly show: the United States is not withdrawing from Romania - on the contrary, it is modernizing and reinforcing its strategic presence at the Black Sea," Bogdan Rodeanu said.
