Ambassador of Japan to Romania Takashi Katae recounts in a video clip an amusing moment when one of his shoes was swallowed by mud after a visit to the Mud Volcanoes, part of a meeting he had with the leadership of the Buzau County Council.

Following his visit to Buzau County at the beginning of March, which also included an official meeting with the president of the Buzau County Council, Marcel Ciolacu, the Japanese ambassador to Romania posted a short video about his experiences in the county on the Instagram and Facebook accounts of the Embassy of Japan.

'In the video, the ambassador presents in a relaxed manner several of Buzau's emblematic places and products: the Mud Volcanoes at Paclele Mari, the Pietroasele Thermal Baths, as well as local gastronomy, including Plescoi sausages and Buzau pretzels,' the Buzau County Council said on Wednesday.

The official visited the Mud Volcanoes reserve in the Buzau Land UNESCO Global Geopark and sampled local dishes.

'I am at Paclele Mari in Buzau, known for the Mud Volcanoes. Because the mud close to the top was so sticky, my sole was taken by the mud. This is Plescoi sausage. Now I will try Buzau pretzels. Greetings from the ruins of the thermal baths at Pietroasele,' Ambassador Takashi Katae said in a video posted on the official page of the Embassy of Japan in Romania.

At the beginning of March, the ambassador travelled to Buzau for a discussion dedicated to the development of Romanian-Japanese relations at regional level. The official was welcomed by the president of the Buzau County Council, Marcel Ciolacu, and at the end of the meeting a visit also took place to the Plant Genetic Resources Bank, where the institution's director, researcher Costel Vanatoru, recalled that the project took shape with Japanese support following the visit of the director of the Institute of Horticulture of Japan in 1992.

'We thanked each other for the very good collaboration during the period when I led the Government of Romania. His Excellency underlined that my visit to Japan in 2022 contributed to strengthening the Strategic Partnership between Romania and Japan, and I conveyed my appreciation for the constant openness of the Japanese side. I voiced my wish to continue this cooperation from my position as president of the Buzau County Council as well,' Marcel Ciolacu said at the time.

The Ambassador of Japan paid a visit to Buzau County to become acquainted with the tourist attractions, traditions and local dishes.
