Viorica Dancila meets Frans Timmermans, hails good cooperation between gov't and EC

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila on Thursday hailed in Brussels during a meeting with the European Commission's Vice President Frans Timmermans the good cooperation and the constructive, constant dialogue between the government of Romania and the EC, mentioning in this respect the substantial talks held during the visit of the College of Commissioners to Bucharest 10 to 11 January 2019, informs a release by the gov't sent to AGERPRES.

The Romanian gov't head also brought to mind the fact that the first month of Romania's presidency of the EU Council was the occasion of intense discussions dedicates to advancement of EU agenda. The PM stressed that Romania's presidency objective to act from the position of an impartial mediator to identify the best formulas of compromise that would ease the faster advancement of underway negotiations on the European files in discussion, the release reads.

Viorica Dancila reiterated Romania's intention to act together with the European Commission, for the strengthening of unity and cohesion.

The rule of law and the independence of the judiciary in Romania was another topic approached by the two dignitaries.

Premier Viorica Dancila promised that the gov't of Romania will act for the observance of the values and principles that are at the very bottom of the European construction: defence of the citizens' rights and liberties, of the rule of law, of the independence of the judiciary and yet, in equal measure, it will act for the Romanian citizens enjoy the same rights and liberties any European citizen has, in accordance with the general guiding principles, from the respect for the common values, for the fundamental rights and liberties, for the rule of law, the source adds.
