Nearly half of Romanians (49%) are interested in protecting financial data, internet banking access or card data, while over one third (37%) were targeted by phishing attacks, by which someone tried to access personal data, reveals a research by YouGov for Google, published on the occasion of the Safer Internet Day.

According to the research's results, 19% of respondents said that personal information (address, personal identification number etc.) is a sensitive subject, and personal moments immortalized in photos are very important for 9% of Romanians.

Regarding the security of online accounts, one quarter of Romanians (26%) consider using a security check tool such as Google Security Checkup at least once a month. On the other hand, another quarter states that they have never done so or do these checks half-yearly (16%).

In terms of online password updating, most Romanians (25%) claim that they do this less than six months, while 9% have admitted that they have never done so, and 19% update their passwords every 2-3 months.

The study by YouGov for Google is representative and took place online between December 27, 2018 - January 7, 2019, on a sample of 1,009 adults in Romania.
