Senators passed, in Monday's session, a legislative proposal, initiated by parliamentarians from across the political spectrum, which aims to establish 2025 as the "Mihai Eminescu Cultural Year".
"Eminescu remains a source of inspiration for Romanians, an emblem of national values and a bridge between the past and the future", state the initiators in the explanatory memorandum of the bill.
The draft normative act stipulates that the Parliament, the Presidential Administration, the Government, local public administration authorities, as well as public institutions subordinated or coordinated by them may organize or support logistically and materially cultural, artistic or educational events dedicated to the celebration of the life and work of Mihai Eminescu.
The bill also provides that the aforementioned institutions may allocate funds from their own budgets for the organization and proper conduct of the events.
The Senate is the first legislative body notified of this bill.
