Agriculture Minister Petre Daea attended the World Food and Agriculture Forum in Berlin, an event organized on the sidelines of the International Green Week exhibition, the topic chosen for this year being "Agriculture Goes Digital - Smart Solutions for Future Farming," informs the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR).

"Progress is being made through research and innovation and the emergence of new technologies and their exploitation will give us hope for the future. "Cohesion, a common European value", the motto of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council and the priorities related to innovation and digitization represent our commitment to strengthening the role of the European Union at global level so that intelligent solutions for agriculture become a reality all over the world," said Agriculture Minister Petre Daea in his speech at the forum held on January 19, 2019.

He stressed the importance of the chosen theme and the fact that there must be a joint effort to make decisions on connectivity, on investment in the agricultural and non-agricultural value chain and care towards nature, in order to modernize the farmer anywhere and help him be connected to any information through digitization.

According to a press release of MADR sent to AGERPRES, the aim of the forum in Berlin is to identify joint policy strategies, to initiate and monitor an international process as well as to promote the exchange between the policymakers, the economic operators, the scientific community and the civil society.

The Forum dedicated to the digitization of agriculture was organized by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany.

Romania participates this year in the "Green Week" with a stand of 335 square meters, in a unitary concept - public institutions and private environment, of which the relevant ministry will be allocated 60 square meters.

The Agriculture Ministry aims to promote and offer for tasting samples of registered products on EU quality schemes or pending trademarks namely - Sibiu salami - the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), Telemea de Ibanesti (Ibanesti Salted Cheese - protected designation of origin (PDO), the Topoloveni plum jam - PGI, 'Novac afumat din Tara Barsei' (smoked bighead carp fillet from Barsa province) -PGI, smoked Danube mackerel - PGI, Plescoi sausages - PGI, Saveni cheddar cheese - PGI, Sibiu salted cheese- PGI, Tulcea pike egg salad - PGI, traditional salad with carp egg - traditional specialities guaranteed (TSG), Dobrudja pie - PGI, as well as products registered on national quality schemes.

The "Green Week 2019" exhibition is both a business platform and a festival of gastronomic and folklore traditions with a wide range of media coverage in Europe and globally. More than 400,000 visitors visited the exhibition in 2018.
