The Federation of Trade Unions in Agriculture, Administration, Food, Research, Tourism and Rural Development "Agro-Star 2022" draws attention to the hasty measures in the government program that may endanger Romania's food security and the activity of Romanian farmers.

"Analyzing the Government Program approved in Parliament, regarding the agricultural sector, the desire to reorganize the subordinate institutions by transferring them to the Agricultural Directorates or merging the two Paying Agencies has emerged again. The 'Agro-Star 2022' Federation of Trade Unions in Agriculture, Administration, Food, Research, Tourism and Rural Development draws attention to the fact that this was attempted in 2024, but following debates in Parliament and constant dialogue with the Minister of Agriculture, the application of the reorganization was extended until December 31, 2025," a release sent to AGERPRES reads.

In this context, the Federation requests the Romanian Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) to finalize the application of Law no. 314/2024, given that at this moment the Civil Servants Agency refuses to approve the reorganization program of the Payments and Intervention Agency for Agriculture, creating a state of unjustified tension, in the midst of the agricultural campaign.

The agricultural organization also conveys that it will not agree to any layoffs or salary reductions, as expected in the application of point 2) of the measures requested by the National Trade Union Bloc at the meeting at the Cotroceni Palace, "namely, that any institution or agency subordinate to the MADR must be audited in order to correctly size human resources".

"The reorganization process of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development must be carried out in working groups that include representative trade union organizations according to the Social Dialogue Law," the release reads.

Trade unionists also point out that agricultural research is completely absent from the government program.

In this context, those interested in the land patrimony of Romanian agricultural research will have no chance, and if agricultural research does not benefit from real funding, protest actions will be launched at the national level, the federation warns.

"Governors, do not endanger Romania's food security, the activity of Romanian farmers through hasty measures under the cover of reducing the budget deficit," the Federation of Trade Unions in Agriculture, Administration, Food, Research, Tourism and Rural Development also said in the cited press release.
