Almost 1.5 million Romanians are celebrating their name day today, November 8, the feast of Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel, told Agerpres.
According to the Directorate for Personal Records and Database Administration, there are 1,454,410 people, including 632,809 women and girls and 821,601 men and boys named Gabriel/Gabriela or Mihai/Mihaela or derivatives thereof.
The most common male first names among them are Mihai - 370,136 and Gabriel - 319,293.
There are also the surnames Mihail - 60,421, Mihaita - 29,385, Mihnea - 11,093, Gavril - 17,141, Gavrila - 6,105, Gabi - 4,122 and Mihalache - 1,447.
The most common female names among them are Mihaela - 367,761 and Gabriela - 253,517.
There are also the following female derivatives: Mihaiela - 6,504, Gabi - 3,431, Mihaila - 793, Mihaita - 578 and Gabita - 180.
