The prefect of Bihor county, Dumitru Tiplea, announced on Thursday, in a press conference, the establishment of the county branch of the Ambulance for Monuments, an event that takes place in the context of the National Culture Day.
The first interventions of the Ambulance for Monuments in Bihor county will take place in the summer of this year, to save the wooden churches in the towns of Luncsoara and Fasca, which are part of the group of 20 wooden churches in critical condition out of the total of 59 in the county, told Agerpres.
"We wanted to come up with something substantial for this National Culture Day. It is a very dear project and very much awaited by us. Beyond the job duties as prefect of the county, I also have a personal motivation for this endeavor. I was born in historical Maramures, on the Izei valley, in the Ieud village, where tradition and culture are at home. As a child, my great-grandmother took me every day to the wooden church on the hill. Of the three churches in the locality, one is made of brick and two are made of wood, the latter also being included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The wooden church of the valley, 1699 and the one on the hill, 1364, the oldest wooden church in Maramures, where the Ieud Codex, 1391, the oldest writing in the Romanian language in the country, was also found," prefect Dumitru Tiplea declared.
According to the prefect, the county's Culture Directorate manages, with a very small staff, a very rich county patrimony. There are 455 positions on the list of historical monuments, the 2015 edition, of which 170 archaeological sites, 30 public monuments and 245 buildings, including 59 wooden churches.
The intervention works on the monuments will be carried out by the Zero Positive Laboratory Association, an association active in the field of promoting contemporary architecture and the architectural and urban heritage through awareness-raising and rehabilitation programs.
