Another five Romanians secure medals at EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships

Five Romanian boxers secured medals on Wednesday at the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships in Ploiesti, after making it through to the semifinals.

In the quarterfinals of the men's 80-kg class, Matei Nastasiuc defeated Latvian Nikita Prohovskis on points (3-2), and will face Israel's Eric Lalimiev (July 28) in the final act.

Leon Andrei Majer also prevailed on points (3-2) in the men's +80 kg quarterfinals against Slovakian David Miroslav Zahradnicek, and will next encounter Leo Fonawah Atang of the UK in the semifinals (July 28).

In the women's division, Rocio Trigos Bucur clinched a victory on points (5-0) against Albanian Arba Kuci in the quarterfinals of the 54-kg class, and will face Croatian Gabriela Vencl in the semifinals (July 27).

Mirela Elisa Cojocaru debuted with a victory in the 57-kg quarterfinals, defeating Israel's Malak Fashfsha 5-0, and will fight against Ukrainian Ulyana Bezfamilna in the semifinals.

In the 66-kg quarterfinals, Eliza Denisa Sopterean defeated Kosovo's Orinda Xhakli (5-0) and will box in the semifinals against Italian Sara Scorrano (July 28).

Romania has so far secured 11 medals at the EUBC European Junior Championships in Ploiesti that sees the participation of 378 athletes - 260 male and 118 females.

Romania's line-up is made of 25 boxers - 13 males and 13 females. AGERPRES
