Minister of Defence Ionut Mosteanu stated on Wednesday that any Russian drones entering Romanian territory will be shot down.
Mosteanu was asked at the palace of Parliament whether the next Russian drone that enters Romania's airspace without authorisation would be taken down.
"Certainly, the pilot or those involved in the operation will have orders to bring it down. Last night, we had drones very close to our border, and both our aircraft and those of our German partners were in the air. They had authorisation to engage and bring it down if it entered Romanian airspace," the defence minister said.
The Ministry of National Defence (MApN) announced on Wednesday that Romanian airspace had not been violated by the drones used by Russia in attacks the previous night on Ukrainian localities along the Danube, on the Romanian-Ukrainian border. It also stated that prior authorisation had been granted to shoot down any aerial targets that might enter national airspace.
