The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) announced that the party's MPs have submitted two bills regarding the harmonisation of the minimum wage and the minimum pension with the value of the minimum expenditure basket for a decent living, having as a source of financing "the drastic taxation of the non-contributory part of the special pensions and the removal of funding from the state budget of parliamentary political parties."
"The expected indexation for the minimum wage of Romanians does not cover the inflation rate. The European Union requires the calculation of a "basket of goods and services at real prices" for the minimum wage. Pensioners also have the right to a "basket of goods and services at real prices" as a minimum pension. The minimum expenditure basket represents the "threshold of poverty," the AUR mentioned in a press release on Monday.
According to the quoted source, an indexation of all pensions by 10 percent is not fair for the pensioners who have a pension below the minimum expenditure basket, because it keeps them below the poverty threshold," and all Romanians who have revenues below the minimum expenditure basket are in this situation, told Agerpres.
