Author Mircea Cartarescu to promote his novel Theodoros in Germany, on the sidelines of Leipzig Book Fair

Author Mircea Cartarescu will have a promotional tour in Germany for his most recent novel, "Theodoros," in the context of the Ministry of Culture's organization of Romania's participation in the Leipzig Book Fair.

According to a press release of the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, Mircea Cartarescu will begin his promotional tour for the novel with three meetings with the public, both within the fair and in the city of Leipzig, after which the promotional tour will continue in Berlin, Cologne and Stuttgart.

Mircea Cartarescu will discuss his new novel "Theodoros" (Zsolnay, 2024) at the Literary Colloquium Berlin on April 2, at the Literaturhaus Cologne on April 3 and at the Literaturhaus Stuttgart on April 4, together with the writer and translator Ernest Wichner, well known for his contribution to the promotion of Romanian literature in the German space.

The series of literary meetings organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute "Titu Maiorescu" in Berlin in collaboration with the publishing houses Zsolnay Verlag and Pop-Verlag Ludwigsburg, the German-Romanian Society/DRG - Deutsch Rumanische Gesellschaft and the German-Romanian Forum in Stuttgart/Deutsch Rumanisches Forum Stuttgart also includes readings and conversations with Dagmar Dusil and Ioana Nicolaie in Berlin.

On April 1, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Berlin will host an event featuring author Ioana Nicolaie, who will discuss her most recent novel, "Drumul spre Soare-Rasare" [The Road to the Sun-Rising] with her translator, Eva Ruth Wemme, and literary researcher Iulia Dondorici. She will also discuss her previous books published in German by Pop-Verlag Ludwigsburg: "Nordul" [Der Norden, in German, The North, in English] and "Cerul din burta" [Der Himmel im Bauch, in German, The Sky in the Belly, in English].

Also, On April 5, Ioana Nicolae will coordinate a children's writing workshop at the Robert-Bosch-Schule in Stuttgart, to be followed by a literary dialogue with Mircea Cartarescu. The workshop will explore fantasy worlds and include interactive activities for the little ones, while the literary discussion will address themes from the novels "Drumul spre Soare-Rasare" and "Theodoros."

During the four days of the book fair in Leipzig, 21 authors from Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Germany, Austria and Ukraine, including Mircea Cartarescu, Moni Stanila, Livia Stefan, Florin Irimia, Ioana Nicolaie, Dana Grigorcea, Traian Pop, historians Armand Gosu and Oliver Jens Schmitt, translators Ernest Wichner, Alexandru Bulucz, Jan Cornelius, Manuela Klenke, Peter Groth, Georg Aescht and journalists Paula Erizanu and Maksym Butkevych will be involved in various events.

Partners in this project are the Romanian Cultural Institute through the National Book Centre, the Romanian Publishers Association, the Traduki Network, the Goethe-Institut Ukraine, as well as the publishing houses that published the translations of the invited Romanian authors: Zsolnay Verlag, Parasitenpresse, Edition fotoTAPETA and Dittrich Verlag.
