Aviation is an essential force in the country's security and response capacity, supporting national defense and our credible presence within the North Atlantic Alliance, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Sunday at a ceremony held in Bucharest, marking Romanian Aviation and Air Force Day.

The head of the executive, who celebrates his name day on Sunday (the feat of Saint Elijah the Prophet, editor's note), attended the military and religious ceremony held in memory of aviation heroes at the Monument to Air Heroes in the Aviators' Square in Bucharest.

"Aviation is an essential force in the country's security and response capability, supporting national defense and our credible presence within the North Atlantic Alliance. We have people who do their job every day, in uniform or in civilian clothes, in flight, in aircraft hangars, in command centers, or in aviation schools. They work with discipline, perseverance, and responsibility in a system that needs consistent investment, modern equipment, and a clear framework for development," emphasized Ilie Bolojan.

According to him, modernizing the fleet, developing aviation infrastructure, and retaining qualified personnel are priorities that the government will support in the coming years.

The prime minister pointed out that NATO membership represents "a guarantee and a responsibility," but "Romania is not simply a beneficiary of the security provided by the North Atlantic Alliance."

"Romanian aircraft patrol in cooperation with allies, participate in international exercises, and contribute directly to regional security," said Ilie Bolojan.

The premier thanked all those who keep this important national defense structure functioning with tenacity, discretion, and professionalism.

"It is an honor for me to join you on this festive day at the event dedicated to our country's aviation. Happy birthday to Romanian Aviation and Air Force. I assure you of my personal respect and the support of the Romanian Government. May God protect Romania," said prime minister Bolojan.

Romanian Aviation and Air Force Day is celebrated every year on July 20, on the feast of Saint Elijah the Prophet, the spiritual protector of pilots.
