Avram Iancu International Airport in Cluj-Napoca announces it will eliminate volume restrictions for liquid containers in hand luggage, becoming the first airport in Romania to implement this measure.
"Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport, an autonomous authority under the authority of Cluj County Council, becomes the first in Romania to lift restrictions on carrying liquids in passengers' hand luggage. As of 3 September 2025, the 100ml limit for containers holding liquids, aerosols and gels transported in hand luggage at Cluj International Airport will be removed. Passengers will be allowed to carry individual containers of up to 2 litres in their cabin luggage," reads a press release the airport issued on Tuesday.
According to the same source, this decision was made possible through measures implemented by Cluj International Airport in cooperation with the Anti-Terrorist Brigade of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) and the manufacturer of the equipment acquired by the airport.
"Cluj International Airport is one of the most strategically important assets of Cluj County. Our goal is to offer passengers top-quality facilities and services, ensuring that their journey is not only pleasant but also easy and safe. The lifting of restrictions on the amount of liquid that can be carried onboard has long been awaited by passengers. By adopting these measures, we once again demonstrate that Cluj International Airport remains a model of good practice in infrastructure development, safety, and passenger security," President of Cluj County Council Alin Tise is quoted in the press release as saying.
According to the press release, Avram Iancu International Airport is the country's leading regional airport, having recorded over 3.2 million passengers in 2024, with traffic expected to reach 3.4 million in 2025.
"We are pleased to bring good news to our passengers, who will no longer be required to remove liquids during security checks and will be able to carry liquids in 2-litre containers. Equipment software has been updated to meet the new standards for detecting liquid explosives and systems have been reconfigured in accordance with European Commission requirements. With the lifting of restrictions, passenger processing time will be reduced," Director General of Cluj International Airport David Ciceo is quoted in the release as saying.
