The People's Movement Party (PMP, opposition) leader, Traian Basescu claims that the Senate was "humbled" by adopting the law repealing OUG 13/2017, which had already been abrogated, and that this "awkward legislative ballet" represents an attempt by the Social Democratic Party (PSD, ruling) to "wash away the imposture" of the bill's issuing.

"I will never be part of the humiliation of an institution I belong to. On 13 February 2017, the Senate passed the bill of the OUG 14/2017 through which the famous OUG 13/2017 was repealed. The repeal vote was unanimous. Yesterday, 20 February 2017, at (PSD) Senator Serban Nicolae's proposal, OUG 13/2017, which had been repealed one week before, was subject to a vote of rejection. For the first time in its post-December history, the Senate is humiliated and put in the situation to vote the rejection of a repealed ordinance, which practically did not exist anymore, as if it had been in force, " wrote Basescu on Facebook.

According to the PMP leader, "all this awkward legislative ballet" is "just to give a breath of fresh air to Grindeanu Government which must leave and PSD's attempt to wash away the imposture of the OUG 13/2017 issuing."

"No electoral or political interest will convince me to be part of the humiliation of an institution I belong to, just for some politicians to save themselves," Basescu affirmed.
