Over 1.15 million transactions, with a total value of approximately 660 million lei, were recorded on November 8 at partner merchants participating in the Black Friday campaign. The largest purchase exceeded 75,000 lei for products in the IT&C category, according to data PayU GPO Romania published on Tuesday, informs Agerpres.

The number of transactions made with a saved card accounted for 63% of payments, a 31% increase compared to the previous edition.

According to a company release, the data shows that the total transaction volume increased 21% compared to last year, with the highest amount reported during the reference period reaching over 75,000 lei at 9:20 AM for IT&C products.

In addition, during the peak minute of Black Friday 2024, over 8,200 transactions were recorded, with dominant categories including IT&C, home & deco, beauty, children's products, fashion, and restaurant vouchers in delivery apps.

"Black Friday 2024 proves once again that Romanians eagerly anticipate this day to benefit from discounts and extended installment plans not available during the rest of the year. The transaction volume confirms the behavior of Romanians in preparing their favorite products, saving their cards, and tracking installment campaigns from banks or financial institutions. While in the past, there was major interest in IT&C products, this year we see a diversification of preferences, with consumers increasingly choosing products from a wider variety of categories, more everyday items. Together with our partners, we worked intensively to ensure that the purchasing process went smoothly, providing consumers with a pleasant, secure, and easy-to-navigate experience," said Elena Gheorghe, Country Manager PayU GPO Romania, as quoted in the release.

The average transaction value was 573 lei, three times higher than the average value of online transactions in the first 9 months of the year. Additionally, the average transaction value for installments increased to 932 lei, 44% higher than the daily average.

"Installment payments accounted for about 30% of the total processed volume, marking a 33% increase compared to Black Friday 2023. Moreover, PayU GPO data shows a 73% rise in transaction volumes via Apple Pay and a 36% increase via Google Pay, compared to the previous edition," the press release adds.

On Black Friday, 15% of transactions were paid with cards issued outside the country, 13 times more than in the previous edition. The top countries from which payments were processed, according to the issuing bank, included Lithuania, the United Kingdom, and Belgium.
