Bucharest's Prefect Speranta Cliseru called on the members of the Senate's Defense Commission on Tuesday to urgently update the Law on public assemblies because it no longer corresponds to the present situations.

"What I am asking you - and I will come up with a proposal - is to urgently amend the Law on public assemblies. I would ask you to update the Law on public assemblies, because it no longer corresponds to today's situations, and it should be clear because a mere notification to the mayor does not replace the authorization of a public demonstration. There must be people who will assume the organization of the rally, there must be ambulances, public toilets, order should prevail in this organization from beginning to end. We cannot continue with these gatherings announced by faxes, emails," Cliseru said.

The Prefect of the Capital was heard by the Senate's Defense Committee in connection with the August 10 events in Victoriei Square.
