Bucharest residents bought over 35 million travel tickets and two million monthly passes in the first nine months of this year, an increase compared to the same period in 2024, the Bucharest Transport Company (STB) announced on Monday.
According to STB data, the number of violations decreased by almost 16,000 cases, to 59,444, at the end of September 2025.
"The figures from the first nine months of 2025 show a clear change in behavior: public transport is becoming the choice of more and more Bucharesters. The over 35 million travel tickets (675,684 more than January - September 2025) and almost two million monthly passes purchased in 2025 (107,545 more than the same period in 2024) show not only a quantitative increase, but a reconnecting of the city with its own mobility system," STB said in a Facebook post.
The company's representatives emphasize that the increasing sales of tickets and monthly passes indicate that Bucharesters are beginning to perceive public transport as a stable and predictable solution, not a breakdown one.
Also, the expansion of the network of single lanes for public transport to 65.3 kilometers is considered one of the most effective measures in recent years.
According to the STB, the decrease in the number of violations in the first nine months of this year, by 15,837 cases compared to the same period in 2024, is "a direct signal of increased respect for travel rules". "People no longer perceive the controller as a threat, but as a natural part of a system that works correctly," STB pointed out.
At the same time, the capital's City Hall policy regarding general paid parking has contributed to rebalancing traffic, the cited source says.
"The increase in sales, the decrease in fines and the expansion of single lanes are not just technical results. They are signs of a change in mentality - the transition from resignation to conscious choice. For the first time in many years, public transport in Bucharest is no longer just "acceptable"; it is starting to be preferable," STB also informed on the social media.
