Calin Georgescu, former presidential candidate, showed up on Sunday, along with several supporters, in front of a building in Mogosoaia where a polling station was supposed to be set up, Agerpres reports.
"Today is Constitution Day. I came only with flowers and prayer because it is sad to realize that the fundamental values of the Romanian people have been annulled in this document of utmost importance, namely the right to democracy and the unconditional right to vote. Today is Constitution Day, and there is nothing constitutional left in Romania," said Georgescu.
He also said that his action was symbolic.
"However, I am here in the name of democracy, and I will always be. It is just a symbol, I am not calling on anyone to do anything, it is simply a moment of reflection. At the same time, as you know, today should have been the second round of the presidential elections. This vote was annulled, and by annulling democracy, our freedom is not annulled. We will continue, in the same peaceful manner, in the same democratic way, to regain what we fought for and sacrificed for in December 1989 and during these 35 years," added Calin Georgescu.
