The Ministry of European Investment and Projects (MIPE) is releasing, under the Healthcare Programme, a call for projects worth EUR 32 million to finance information, education and medical screening services for hepatitis B and C viruses.
"The health of people infected with hepatitis B and C viruses is profoundly affected, and patients have the chance for a better life only if treatment is started in the early stages of the disease. Precisely for that reason, we will finance projects worth EUR 32 million from European money that will contribute to the target of eliminating viral hepatitis. Specifically, over 134,000 people will be informed, and of these, over 107,000 will benefit from screening," Minister of European Investment and Projects Marcel Bolos is quoted as saying in a MIPE press statement released on Wednesday.
Hepatitis B and C viruses are seen as risk factors in the development of a form of liver cancer, and Romania has joined the other states to achieve the World Health Organization's goal of eliminating viral hepatitis by 2030.
The following will benefit from screening from European money: vulnerable people, such as those with disabilities, mental health problems, disadvantaged ethnic minorities (e.g. Romanian citizens belonging to the Romany minority), migrants/refugees, people infected with HIV/AIDS, people in nursing homes, people in foster care s/child protection system, victims of domestic violence and human trafficking, etc.; socio-economically disadvantaged people such as those who are homeless, uninsured, who benefit from the minimum inclusion income, who live in overcrowded households or without sanitary facilities, unemployed, employees from families where the income per family member is below the minimum wage; people living in marginalised communities.
Public hospitals dealing with the diagnosis, staging and treatment of chronic liver diseases and public universities of medicine and pharmacy are also invited to apply.
They can implement the projects in partnership with entities relevant to the activities/sub-activities carried out, such as: other types of public health units providing medical services, universities, NGOs with relevant activity/experience within the funded actions.
The projects can be submitted to the MySMIS2021 information system, between March 21 and June 16, 2025.
