Over 6 million applications in 2025 have been filed by applicants without a higher education background and who fall into the category of skilled and unskilled workers, with the volume of their applications placing them at the top of the most active seekers this year, according to data published on Thursday by a recruitment platform.
For those who do not have a higher education background, employers in Romania have so far this year put on the market over 150,000 jobs on eJobs.ro. Adding up to them are another 13,000 jobs posted on iajob.ro, the job platform exclusively for applicants without a higher education background.
The highest employment chances are for candidates in Bucharest City and the counties of Iasi, Cluj, Brasov, Ilfov, Prahova, Craiova and Timis. In all these counties, the number of job openings varied between 20,000 and 80,000, for the entire January - October 2025 period.
Mures, Ialomita, Bihor, Arges and Neamt are, on the other hand, the counties that offer the fewest job openings including for this category of applicants, according to eJobs.
"If specialists, employees with a high level of seniority and managers were the most stable segments this year, in terms of career movements, those on the entry level segment, but also candidates without a higher education background and skilled and unskilled workers were much more active and permanent in looking for a job. Most of them wanted to make a change primarily for financial reasons. The price increases of late, but also the lack of stability in some fields of activity have made them re-enter the job seeking circuit," says Roxana Draghici, head of Sales at eJobs.
Retail remains, in this case, the field with the most openings, being, in fact, a field that predominantly employs entry level candidates, but also blue collars.
It is followed by call-centre/BPO, services, food industry, transport/logistics, tourism and production.
According to data with Salario, the eJobs pay comparison tool, the net average pay nationwide in these areas are as follows: RON 4,500 for retail, RON 4,000 lei for call center/BPO, RON 4,500 for services, RON 4,200 for the food industry, RON 5,000 lei for transport/logistics and RON 4,000 for tourism and production.
"As an element of specificity for these jobs, we see a greater openness on the part of employers in the direction of pay transparency. At a general level, the percentage of salary publication in the job advertisement is a maximum of 40%. In the case of blue-collar jobs (for those without a higher education background), the percentage exceeds the threshold of 50%. This is also because employers know that, for these segments of candidates, pay is the most important criterion they consider when deciding to apply or accept a job offer," explainsDraghici.
Currently, the highest in demand applicants without a higher education background are car mechanics, plumbers, locksmiths, commercial workers, fast-food staff, warehouse workers, goods handlers, warehouse workers, according to iajob.ro data. For the most part, these ads still require a baccalaureate diploma, but not previous experience in the field or for the position in the ad.
At the moment, 24,000 job openings are available on eJobs.ro. Another 8,000 jobs are open on iajob.ro, the job platform launched by eJobs and dedicated to applicants who want to get hired quickly, without going through the traditional steps of a recruitment process, such as creating a CV.
