The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued a Code red advisory for heavy rain on Monday, targeting the counties of Constanta, Calarasi and Ialomita starting Tuesday evening.
According to forecasters, between 21:00 on 7 October and 23:00 on 8 October, these areas will face heavy rainfall, with amounts reaching 110 to 120 litres per square metre in short intervals or through accumulation, according to Agerpres.
On the other hand, a Code orange warning for significant rainfall will also be in effect from Tuesday at 21:00 until Wednesday at 23:00 for counties in Muntenia, Dobrogea, southern Moldavia and south-eastern Transylvania, where rainfall totals are expected to reach 60 to 90 litres per square metre and locally up to 100 litres per square metre.
A Code yellow advisory for rain and strong winds has also been issued for the same period, affecting parts of central Moldavia, southern Transylvania, eastern and southern Oltenia, and the western Southern Carpathians with rainfall amounts expected to reach 25 to 30 litres per square metre and locally 40 to 50 litres per square metre.
In the counties affected by the Code yellow warning, namely Vrancea, Galati, Buzau, Prahova, Braila, Ialomita, Calarasi, Constanta, Tulcea and Ilfov, as well as in Bucharest, the gusts of wind are expected to reach 50 to 70 km/h.
In the Southern Carpathians, at altitudes above 1,700 metres, there will be temporary blizzards (gusts of 60 to 90 km/h) and snow accumulation of 10 to 30 cm.
