The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has issued a Code yellow warning for rain and strong winds, valid from Monday at 21:00 until Tuesday at the same hour, covering Dobrogea, most of Muntenia, the southern half of Moldavia and the Carpathians of Curvature.
Rainfall amounts are expected to reach 25 to 30 litres per square metre and locally 40 to 50 litres per square metre.
According to forecasters, especially on Tuesday, wind gusts of 50 to 70 km/h are expected in the counties of Vrancea, Buzau, Braila, Ialomita, Calarasi and along the coast.
Moreover, a general weather advisory is in effect for the entire country, warning of significant rainfall, strong winds, temporary blizzard conditions at altitudes above 1,700 metres and colder weather. This advisory came into force on Monday at 10:00 and remains valid until 9 October.
In the mentioned period, widespread rain is expected across the south, east and centre of the country, with accumulated amounts between 25 and 50 l/sq m, and locally 70 to 100 l/sq m in Muntenia, Dobrogea and Moldavia.
In the Southern Carpathians, at altitudes above 1,700 metres, precipitation will mostly fall as snow, with blizzard conditions expected on Tuesday (7 October) and Tuesday to Wednesday (7/8 October), leading to snow accumulation.
Winds will intensify in the south, east, in mountain areas and locally elsewhere, generally reaching 45 to 55 km/h, and temporarily 60 to 70 km/h in Dobrogea, most of Muntenia, central and southern Moldavia, as well as the Southern and Curvature Carpathians.
Temperatures will drop across much of the country, with maximum temperatures generally between 12 and 18 degrees and minimum temperatures between 3 and 14 degrees.
