The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued on Friday a Code Yellow warning for heavy rainfall, valid until Saturday morning in the mountain areas of six counties, as well as an advisory for cold weather, precipitation and wind across most of the country.
According to the specialist forecast, between 10:00 on 21 November and 10:00 on 22 November, rainfall is expected in the mountain areas of Gorj, Valcea, Arges, Hunedoara, Alba and Sibiu counties, with accumulations of 25-30 litres per square metre, locally exceeding 40 litres per square metre.
Moreover, from 10:00 on 21 November to 14:00 on 23 November, an advisory for rain, mixed precipitation and snow, wind intensification and cold weather will be in effect for most regions.
Thus, rainfalls will occur across most of the country, with local accumulations of 10-15 litres per square metre and particularly in northern Oltenia, north-western Muntenia and the western Southern Carpathians, where 20-30 litres per square metre are expected, locally exceeding 60 litres per square metre.
The precipitation will mainly be rain, however, as of Saturday evening (22 November), sleet and snow are expected in the Western Plain, northern Moldavia and eastern Transylvania, with isolated ice deposits, followed by snowfall.
In the mountains, from Saturday night into Sunday, snowfall will gradually predominate, with snow accumulation especially on the peaks.
Locally and temporarily, wind will intensify on Friday and Saturday in the south-eastern regions, with gusts generally reaching 45-50 km/h, while in the high areas of the Southern Carpathians on Friday, wind gusts of 70-90 km/h are expected.
Meteorologists mention that, overall, temperatures will drop significantly on Saturday in the west, north and north-east, and on Sunday across the rest of the country.
