Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown, and Prince Consort Radu met on Tuesday evening in Rome members of the Romanian community in Italy, told Agerpres.

The event was hosted by the Romanian Embassy in Rome for the release of an Italian edition of the Queen Marie's diaries edited and printed by the Rediviva Milano Publishing House.

"Today's ceremony is occasioned by the presentation of the anniversary Italian edition of Queen Marie's diaries published by the Rediviva Publishing House in Milan, the only Romanian publishing house in Italy, founded by Violeta Popescu, a historian, whom I sincerely congratulate on her dedication and passion, on the way she makes Romanian history be known here in Italy. We are talking about an exceptional book, about a great personality of Romanian history," Romanian ambassador in Rome Gabriela Dancau told the opening of the release ceremony.

"I'm glad to be here, in Italy, where there are so many Romanians and I'm glad every time I meet you. (...) Thank you for this evening and I hope to have the opportunity to talk with many of you and to enjoy this book, which came out exactly after 100 years [from the coronation in Alba Iulia]. And we have actually been to Alba Iulia now and it was a very profound experience for us," Margareta said in her turn.

Prince Radu mentioned the significance of the meeting with the members of the Romanian community in Italy.

"The meeting with you is the most important moment of this visit. For 156 years since the Royal House existed, there has been no other more important mission for us than to inspire the Romanians, to give them pride, to give them confidence and to tell them how much they can do when they are respected and looked upon with confidence," said Radu.

The importance of the moment was also emphasised by the editor of the book.

"Welcome to this celebration, because this book is a celebration for us. We are talking about Queen Marie because Queen Marie gave us a great country. Tonight we have a little Romania in this small hall: Romanians from all corners of Romania, Romanians from the historical Romanian provinces, and I can only congratulate the Embassy of Romania, which had this inspired initiative to bring us together in the year of the Coronation Centennial, a moment as important as the Greater Union of 1918," said Violeta Popescu.

After the presentation of the book, there was a reception extended by the Romanian Embassy in Italy, during which those in attendance could interact with the members of the Romanian Royal House.

Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown, and His Royal Highness Prince Consort Radu are visiting Rome and the Vatican.

The schedule of the visit to Rome also includes visits to the Italian Paralympic Committee and the Italian Olympic Committee, as well as touring an exhibition about the Royal Family of Romania at the Pietro Canonica Museum.

An important item on the schedule is a private audience with the Pope, followed by visits to the Bambino Gesu Pediatric Hospital of the Holy See, a centre receiving female refugees from Ukraine and to the headquarters of the Sant'Egidio Community.
