The Superior Council of Magistracy conveys that the independence of justice, predictability, stability of the regulatory framework and the adoption of fair regulation must be "the guidelines of any honest inter-institutional dialogue".
According to a press release from the Supreme Council of Magistracy sent to AGERPRES, at the invitation of the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Sorin Grindeanu, the head of the Superior Council of Magistracy participated on Friday, together with the President of the High Court of Cassation and Justice and the Prosecutor General of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, in a meeting organized at the Parliament headquarters, in which representatives of the executive branch also took part.
"It is essential that the issues concerning the status of magistrates be discussed with the effective involvement of representatives of the judicial authority, so that any approach in this regard respects the independence of the judiciary, an essential guarantee of the rule of law," the CSM specifies.
According to the cited source, debates regarding the status of judges and prosecutors must be in accordance with the constitutional principles governing the activity of the judicial system.
"The independence of the judiciary, the predictability and stability of the regulatory framework, the adoption of fair regulation, which takes into account the role of justice in a democratic state, as well as the realities of the judicial system, developed under conditions that do not transform the professional body of magistrates into a target of public pressure, must be the guidelines of any honest inter-institutional dialogue, which the Council has constantly requested," emphasize the representatives of the CSM.
The Superior Council of Magistracy reaffirms the responsibility of the judiciary towards society, but also the need for a balanced public discourse of all the factors involved, in relation to the judiciary, so as to avoid stigmatizing the professional body of judges and prosecutors, as well as the negative consequences that such approaches have regarding public trust in the judicial system, the cited source also indicates.
The interim chairnab of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, announced on Friday that he had begun consultations with relevant actors in the judiciary in order to quickly draft a bill on magistrates' pensions, which would meet the expectations of Romanians and unblock the tranche of 231 million euros from the PNRR by November 28.
